TERRACITA Garden

1st year Master of Landscape Architecture Studio

University of Minnesota Twin Cities

December 2021

Named for the Latin word terra meaning 'earth' and the Italian word città, meaning 'city', Terracitta Garden embraces its location and offers a space for people and plants in a multitude of ways.

The site is in downtown Minneapolis, a parking lot accross from the Central Library on Nicollet Mall. Our brief was to design a garden to heal the earth and her inhabitants, which I aimed to do through offereing access to locally grown food, education, gardening space, and beauty.

The garden is designed with a permaculture approach via companion and succession planting, and is in a naturlaistic style with flowers, grasses, trees, and shrubs strategically mixed with food producing plants.

A restaurant, pavillion, and dining grove provide designated places for classes to meet and food to be served. However, education is meant to take place throughout the garden with a range of classes in partnership with the library from cooking to gardening to beekeeping classes.
